An uphill battle

Wrote this to a friend today:

In the long run, the biggest obstacle to much needed electoral reform is people’s tendency / desire to view politics as a zoroastrian battleground of us vs them, good vs evil. A two party system sounds more “exciting” because it suggests that “if we win, then we crush them”.

It’s people’s desire for domination that makes a two party system the most appealing democratic system, of course, if people have a choice, they’d rather chose to be a fascist majority.

Hence, Trump vs Democrats, PH vs UMNO/PAS, it’s all about whether we can grab the seat of power and erase the influence of the other side.

The much needed electoral reform is therefore doomed to be fighting emotions with logic, fighting simplicity with complexity – and that means an uphill battle.
